homework week #8 part 2 Rollyo

I'm confused by the concept of Rollyo. I did find some interesting comments under privacy in the librarianblogs. Those of us who have problems with all this public living on Web 2.0 resources are probably living in a fool's world since there really is no or little privacy, in fact. sigh.

Homework week # 8

The mash-up I found: World News Map allows you to point to a county and read the latest news in that area.

MLA assignment week # 7

The YouTube video I'd like to add to my blog is:

Thoughts about how to use YouTube in the library: the obvious is we could use this for teaching a recurring class such as how to use RefWorks. Or a tour of the library. I'd have to play with this medium awhile to get a better, or at least a more original, idea.

MLA CE assignment week #6

I could see how you might introduce your library to new students by showing pictures of the various areas and what you might find there. this would be especially appealing if the library were beautiful.

MLA CE week 5 assignment

I tried using Google docs and right off the bat I had difficulty with the centering. I centered my title and then tried typing the body to the left. It kept moving my title to the left even though I wanted it centered. Hmmmm. that was frustrating, but I do think sharing documents, slides, spreadsheets is a terrific advantage over Word. Not sure if this couldn't be done with the wiki, so I'll have to investigate that.

Delicious week 4?

I'm losing track of all of this Web 2.0 stuff. I do the homework, but haven't really made the time to investigate all the possibilities. Not sure I want others to see what I bookmark. No harm, but like my privacy?

Exercise #3 Homework

MLA could use social networking to connect to members but they'd have to train even more of us who did not initially see the value of these functions in how to use them. The more savvy librarians could perhaps take on those not yet connected. (nice reversal of roles with newer librarians helping their supervisors?)

I'm not sure if our library should have a Facebook page. I would leave that to my more hip librarians if they are interested in maintaining one. With our short staff, I'm hesitant to add more work to anyone.

I can't tell if I'm paranoid, but I do have privacy concerns, especially in Facebook. I don't know how identity thief works, so I don't know what to be leevy of.

I haven't had enough time to play with this stuff to know what I've liked yet.
